This weekend, students are to work on the word problem about fractions and decimals posted below. We will review this problem together on Monday. The idea is for students to have a chance to try the problem before we go over it in class. If students are having difficulty working out a strategy, please don't stress and spend excessive time on this as we will review strategies together in class (recommended time is max 30 minutes). We are practicing the problem solving process (see Concept & Topics for information about this) with a focus on analyzing the problem before solving. Students are welcome to solve using a preferred strategy in any format as long as the general steps are followed. The options for format are:
1) Solve on paper - using the homework books that were brought home or other paper 2) Upload a video to IRIS - explain in the video how the problem was solved 3) Share on Google Docs/Slides - share your work with [email protected] The Fundraiser Problem Everett, Zabby and Cade are selling cookie dough to fundraise money for the school. They each have a goal of raising $100 a week for a total of 3 weeks. In the first week, Everett raised 0.4 of the weekly goal and Zabby raised ⅖ of the weekly goal. In the second week, Everett met 0.70 of the weekly goal, and Zabby raised 21/25 of the weekly goal. In the third week, Zabby and Everett both raised 6/10 of the weekly goal. For all 3 weeks, Cade’s grand total was 0.70 of the overall goal. Who raised the most money altogether at the end of 3 weeks? Comments are closed.
