Students are bringing home their cloud guides today. They are learning how to: use their cloud guide as a tool to predict weather, collect data, and analyze that data for accuracy. The expectation for this weekend is for students to:
- Write Friday's actual weather and temperature* - Make a prediction on Saturday at 12pm. - Write Saturday's actual weather* - Make a prediction on Sunday at 12pm. *Actual weather will not be recorded until the following day. The purpose is to determine how accurate their prediction was. It is very important that these guides are brought back to DGS on Monday. We are exploring the concept of risk and security through a number of different topics. On Wednesday, October 18th, Quebec lawmakers passed Bill 62 that would require public workers and citizens seeking government services to have their faces uncovered. Watch the video below and be prepared to discuss the following questions on Monday: Who will be impacted by this bill? We can approach this topic from multiple perspectives. Consider the topic from many different points of view (ex. Stephanie Vallee (Quebec Justice Minister), Zayneb Binruchd, Bus Drivers, other public service providers, citizens, and so on). For those of you who want to review the basics of fractions to build on your understanding, here is a video to watch. For those of you who want to review how to compare fractions using a visual strategy, watch the following video. Watch the following video to review the concepts of equivalent fractions we have been practicing in class. After viewing the video, answer the questions below in your homework book. 1. Using a visual, prove that: 4/10 is equivalent to 8/20
2. Create 1 more equivalent fraction to 4/10. 3. What is 4/10 in simplest form? We will be using the Word Journeys Spelling Program to develop our students' spelling skills. These word lists are intended to teach students specific spelling rules. It is not expected that students memorize how to spell these words. Instead, they are to explore what other words share the same spelling rule. New words can be found in the newspaper, in home reading books, in TV advertisements, or in conversations. Your child is expected to know which spelling group they belong to.
