Coding Challenge: Revisit the game designed in class today. Is your script complete? Can you make any changes? Some suggestions: Try to increase the speed of the cars or change what the cat says. Can you add a score? Time?
Coding Challenge: Revisit the game designed in class today. Is your script complete? Can you make any changes? Some suggestions: Add apples that disappear when they are touched by your first Sprite. Don't remember how to do this? Go to your first game and revisit the coding script - how did you make the apples disappear?
Students have been learning the basics of coding using the online resource Scratch. Coding is an effective tool to teach students how to problem solve, manipulate symbols and commands, learn a universal language, and be innovative in designing new computer games.
See below for the two challenges presented this week. Students have taken their "Story Behind the Name" document and created a narrative of their family's immigration story. The learning intentions of this task are to:
Develop story telling skillsAppreciate Canada's diversity Understand how immigration is experienced differently (multiple perspectives) Recognize how solid our ties are to our ancestors Develop sense of identity This week students made their first iterations. Through feedback loops, mini lessons, and self-assessment, students will revisit this task a number of times in order to grow as engaging storytellers. See your child's Iris profile for iterations and self-assessment. |
